| Bargain hunters out in force at Lions auction |
|
It may have been held a week later than usual but an annual charity auction was just as popular as ever, with bargain hunters still out in force. The annual Lions Club of Ashburton Pakeke auction was held at the weekend with things such as bikes, furniture, trailers, household items and more going under the hammer for charity. The Ashburton Raceway was a buzz with activity for the event, which raised around $7000 for cancer support and other local charities. The usual date of the auction was changed due to other booking commitments but club member Derek Prebble said the auction was still very successful. "People seemed to support it well again and those that were there, were there to buy. All sorts of stuff went out the door and anything that was any good was well chased so the competition was certainly there. "We're always really appreciative of people who support this, not just by coming along but those who give stuff to sell as well," he said. Club members will now meet to review the auction, before planning for next year's event begins. |
